Waitin' For The Boat, Part III

Back in January I caught a couple of Alaska locomotives in SODO on their way to a new owner, who at that time was unknown. Well as of July we now know where at least one of the sister engines went - Chile! Couldn't be farther from home...from the Northern Lights to South America.

    It is very interesting and ironic that locomotives built for one extreme area are going to be going to another on the other side of the Americas. Also, being re-gauged, as both a meter-gauge and a broad-gauge line bought some of them.

    As for other Alaska Railroad Motive Power, did the ARR order the DMU they wanted for the Chugach Whistle Stop Service yet? That could end up being machine, as in the off-season , when it gets there, the Mayors of Anchorage and the Mat-Su Borough want to try it out on a commuter rail line between Anchorage and the Mat-Su Valley. Alaska could be the ultimate test for the CRC DMU.

  2. I wouldn't mind seeing a DMU or two on the Woodinville Subdivision, closer to home!

    Would be great to borrow either the ARR one before it is shipped, or the ones that just arrived in Portland, but unfortunately Portland's new DMUs would not work on any temporary platforms built on the Woodinville Sub. The DMUs built by Colorado Railcar for WES, are high-floor, high-platform only. Would have to build the temporary platforms higher. Might be worth a try.
